Pages of a novel

Hi guys, more photos coming your way~

Oyako Don at Himawari with miso soup

Then ... discounted noggi. Thanks tom!!

On sunday I met up with Cindy, Lucy, Vic, Yuting, Steph & Mitchell to hang out with Mr. Badran at the Chocolate pavilion in southbank. It was such a good day, catching up with everyone. I finally tracked down Cindy and made her hang with me 8D We shared a strawberry chocolate volcano and a butterscotch hot chocolate!

As well as that, I also watched The Wolverine with my brother :) I'll always love X-men no matter what. Loved how there were heaps of japanese people in the film. Maybe one day if I get rich I'll go buy a nice apartment in Japan and use it as my holiday house or something haha.

Dad recently bought a new camera, so I had a bit of a play around with it.

My motherrrrrrr. Do I look like her?

Lastly....

18TH BIRTHDAY PARTY PREPARATIONS HAVE STARTED :D !!

Made some tissue paper pom pom decorations today :)
Red and black theme.

Goodnight! x

Recently, I keep feeling as though I just keep doing the same thing over and over. I feel like I've lost interest in almost everything except reading now. I go to the city so often that it no longer seems special at all, it's kind of like my second home and I go out to eat with people so often that I don't find it particularly fun anymore. I think it's more just the fact that I've pretty much been to all the places so yeah.

In fact, I'm even slowly starting to get bored of karaoke. This is crazy (considering my friends said I was addicted to it just a few months ago). Maybe that's why I find myself desperately searching for random books to read, they're so much more interesting that what's really going on in my life. I do say I'm having less trouble with moving forward now, I'm not always constantly thinking back on the past and not doing anything. This is such a pointless post. Just felt like I should take a breather from what I've been blogging these days : food. Food and more food. That's not exactly going to stop me from blogging about it AGAIN in the next post but ya know.

Perhaps you could almost say I'm half sick of going out. I don't feel like buying anything and I don't even half care what I eat when I go out. Well at least that has helped me to decide that I'm going to have my 18th birthday party at the BBQ area in my apartment. It's something I don't do as often so it'll be more special. Or so that's what I figured. Hopefully it won't be a flop, I have this strange fear of planning events because I always over stress and keep thinking it will end up being fail. Weird I know.

Anyway, I'm going to be random and leave you with my anatomy assignment which I was actually kind of happy with :3 It was a little lame though, to be honest. But hey, it's actually a real account of what happened to me

We were meant to write something about an injury in layperson terms (terms that the common person can understand). It could be in any format, obviously I opted for short story - don't worry guys, no forests involved this time. In case you don't know what I'm on about, its just that every time a teacher is happy with a short story I write, that story always seems to narrate a scene with a forest in it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PART A

The soft thud of the shoe catching against the drain, that’s all I heard before I found myself falling forwards toward the solid brick wall in front of me. Reflexively, I stretched out my right arm, attempting to steady myself so that I wouldn’t collide face first with the wall. A resounding crack had pierced the tranquil silence then, and the next thing I knew, I was on the ground, feeling a numbing pain bloom across the length of my right arm. Looking down to examine the injury, all that registered was the fact that my arm was bent at a horribly peculiar angle. Somehow though, this didn’t bother me very much; I felt dizzy and lightheaded, very much detached from the present situation.

Distantly, I was aware of a teacher coaxing me onto a stretcher and for some unknown reason I kept finding layers of blankets being piled onto me. The notion at the time seemed quite ridiculous as I was sweating buckets, but I was grateful as a few minutes later, a rather cold clammy feeling began to settle over me. My arm felt like a big swollen mess and my attempts to move it proved quite fruitless. However, I did find that control over my fingers hadn’t been lost and I could wiggle them perfectly well. The pain in my arm had reduced to a dull ache now and I lay still, feeling tendrils of coldness creeping up my arm, a result of the icepack that had been applied without my noticing.

One minute I was being lulled by an indistinct buzz of conversation around me, and the next, I was lying flat on a hospital bed, staring up at the whitewashed walls of the hospital. My quiet observation of the surroundings however, was promptly disrupted by the arrival of a nurse, who briskly explained that I would be given medicine to help my arm feel better. Before any feelings of apprehension could arise, the sharp stinging sensation of a needle piercing into the back of my right hand told me it had already been done. Curiously, I noted that the thing inserted in my hand was connected to a plastic bag and suspended above me on some kind of pole. The immediate relief in my arm however, effectively wiped away any remaining doubts.

Afterwards, I was promptly taken to get a picture taken of my arm and left to rest in another room. By then, the situation began to feel much less surreal and I started to feel impatient for an explanation. It wasn’t until a few hours later however, that a woman finally entered the room, introducing herself as Doctor Heather Ross. Noting the angry rumbling of my stomach, she smiled bemusedly down at me, “I know you’re hungry, but we have to perform a surgery on your right forearm as both the bones inside are broken. That’s why we had to make sure your stomach was empty.” Following that, I found myself being wheeled across a dimly lit corridor into the operating room. As if noticing my fear, someone patted me reassuringly before attaching a bag of fluid to the syringe inserted into the back of my right hand. Apparently, it would help me sleep through the surgery. A wave of drowsiness hit me then, and I was plunged into inky darkness.

I groggily opened my eyes to the sight of Doctor Ross chatting animatedly with my parents about something; they didn’t seem to notice that I was awake. I tried feebly to raise my head, bringing on a bout of dizziness. Giving up, I lay back down and tried to listen in on their conversation instead. What I garnered from listening was that during my operation, Doctor Ross made a few cuts along my arm, inserting a metal rod to help steady the two bones in my forearm during healing.  Shuddering inwardly from just thinking about it, I glanced quickly to my injured arm, noting it was encased by a hard white material spanning from the knuckles of my hands to my upper arm. Having finally noticed that I was no longer asleep, Doctor Ross turned toward me then, and commenced in giving me a detailed explanation regarding the care of my arm. Wiggle your fingers. Rest your arms in a sling or on pillows when lying down during the first five days. Keep your arm away from water. Those were the main instructions I think. For the next few days however, my attention was focused more towards staying in bed all day long and finding the TV channel I wanted to watch. I have to say, breaking an arm does have its perks.

I'm sure none of you actually want to read Part B since its written in medical terminology and all so it'll be party gibberish to most of you haha.

Hi everyone :3
After a relaxing one month holiday, I finally had to head back to uni yesterday. I had so much trouble staying awake though, I think I've relaxed for way too long. Thank goodness I only had one class yesterday. After that, our group predictably went to 'celebrate' again hahahaha. Told you we find any kind of excuse to go hang out/ eat food.
I dragged everyone to the five sisters cafe again and this time I tried vegetarian gnocchi. It was kind of disappointing to be honest haha and I think my friends now think I have bad taste cause they all tried the pasta. Duh, eat greek food at a greek place, not italian. Lesson learnt.

Jen came to join us at the cafe and afterwards we walked to the chocolate pavilion to have dessert. We ended up sitting there shamelessly for two hours and just chatting about the most disturbing things. I ordered a dark truffle creme brûlée. I was kind of expecting the dessert but got some kind of hot chocolate drink instead. It was still nice though. To believe I used to hate chocolate. It's actually kind of pleasant now.
I went for my job orientation yesterday, we spent part of the time watching hilarious videos of random people who decided to make a youtube video about their 'daiso haul'. It was rather amusing to watch. At one point one of the assistant managers was telling us about stocking up the shelves

'don't just shove something in simply because there is a hole!'

Then our managers promptly burst into laughter after realising the implications. I have awesome managers I know. They're so fun to be around.

Got home and decided to make chocolate mint macarons. I'm so happy, I'm finally getting better at making them. I still need to get a proper piping bag though. But yeah, brought them to uni for my friends today ^^ I think they liked it.

Okay I should get back to listening to my lecture... I think the lecturer is giving me evil eyes now :\ she hates our group already.

I can't believe holidays are soon coming to an end (well actually for you school kids the work had already started but ya know). I had to wake up at 6:50am this morning to go with my mum to this hospital because she needed to collect a medical kit as she is going for a colonoscopy and endoscopy check up next tuesday. Apparently she has anaemia which probably means I have it too.

Anyway, by the time I got home (which was around 9am), I really tired for some reason and went to nap for two hours before I had to get up again to go meet up with An and Jennifer. We went to Black star cafe to grab some drinks and then for lunch we headed off to the five sisters cafe.

It was my second time there, its located in a back yard sort of area but the food there is quite good. It's greek food and the price is quite decent for the taste, amount and presentation I think. Or maybe Jen has just influenced me, i used to think it was super expensive. I guess after wandering around in Sydney and Melbourne, I realised how much food really costs when you eat out. I ended up ordering eggs benedict with bacon, spinach & hollandaise sauce.

Jen left to go work afterwards so I stayed to chat with An a little bit. We were sitting there for a while but already finished our food so we bought some drinks so it wouldn't be awkward. Despite not liking coffee I ordered a cappuccino.

I was still super tired after drinking the coffee though and didn't feel that well so I went home after that. Sorry sunny, I couldn't karaoke with you ): Maybe next time!!

I attempted to put on some make up today except it looked disastrous as usual (it looked a lot worse in real life). I can't even put eyeliner on properly enough so that one eye actually looks the other.  Why even bother put some on? It's bad for the skin, takes effort + time, and gradually you become so used to it that you feel insecure without it. That's three good reasons not to use make up :\ That and I don't think it looks that great on me whereas on people such as nat it looks amazing no matter how she does it.

Okay, anyway other that today I met up with Julie in the city. Originally we planned on going to have lunch then Le Bon Choix so I skipped breakfast but then julie didn't feel hungry so we went straight to  Le bon Choix instead.
The cakes there all looked so amazingly pretty albeit a little pricey. Julie ordered Lemon Meringue and I ordered L'esperance (combination of smooth coconut mousse, passionfruit jelly and crunchy chocolate coconut base).

Julie let me try a bite of her lemon meringue and it was actually better than I expected. Usually I don't really like meringues or lemon flavoured desserts but this one wasn't that sweet and the lemon was refreshing enough to balance out the meringue. I cut open my dessert to observe the layers.
It looks so cool right???

Okay I shall leave you to drool now. Goodnight!

Oh, one last thing. I have an orientation day for Daiso next monday!!! It's at the same venue as my interview and I get paid equivalent to a three hour shift :) So excited!!

You've probably all seen on facebook, but a couple of days ago (13th of July), there was a massive gathering of musicians at the Suncorp Stadium in an attempt to break the world record. We were to try form the World's biggest Orchestra. So basically, it was a bunch of randoms who gathered together to play a song with no prior rehearsal or anything.

I'm really glad elaine persuaded me to join, it was a unforgettable experience!! It felt really good just to be with so many people and sound so magnificent. The previous record was around 6,452 people and originally we didn't have enough people to break it. Somehow, in under half an hour or so, we managed to get from 6,300 to 7,224 people. Amazing right? It was so loud as well!! Proud to have been part of it ;D life goal achieved you know, made it into the Guinness world book of records ;)

'
excuse my awkward pose, I was kind of squashed between my violin case and everything else :x credits to elaine for the photo :D!

To achieve this, we not only had to gather a certain amount of people but no more than four people could stop playing at a time otherwise it wouldn't count. Such an unforgettable experience. Anyway, that'll be all for today :)

Oh and if any of you are interested, here is the video!!

Hehehe I went to wagaya two days in a row this week, once with family and once with friends. I love my aburi salmon way way too much.

I've also been busy baking macarons :) I feel happy because they actually look better now, I have pretty much no cracked macarons + they all have feet and are a nice round shape. I made a chocolate mint flavour a couple of days ago and I made red wine flavoured ones today with phuong when she came over!

If I improve more maybe I can bake some with jen and we can sell them at suitcase rummage together, succeeding our Jenpenwen macaron dream muahaha.

albert: soo what are you doing?
me: blogging ;D nothing much to blog about HAHAHA but ya almost done
albert: you could say blog how cool i am in one sentence

HAHAHA this guy. Well wish came true, congrats bro. Okay this is so random. Goodnight!! Going to be a part of the World's biggest Orchestra event tomorrow.

Good evening everyone, hope you're all doing well :3
I'm still on holidays, I can barely believe it because I feel as though I'm so busy every day and its not even because I have work or anything (well I do hope I have work soon, fingers crossed hehe). I've been out almost everyday since I got back from sydney/melbourne. Today I had my Daiso interview!!

I was actually so nervous since it was a group interview and I had no idea what to expect. It also took me a while to decide whether what I was wearing was smart casual which was the dress code for the interview. Actually, I spent the majority of my morning being nervous even though I had planned to sleep.

When I arrived at the venue (christie conference centre) I was really shocked by how posh the surroundings were. There were many levels and each had 8 elevators, how ridiculous. On top of that they were playing soft classy music, the walls were pale white and tastefully chosen. There were also plush armchairs with rich-looking people sitting in them enjoying some fancy brunch and waitresses/cleaners walking around. I felt overall intimidated. To make things worse, when I arrived at the room I was supposed to have the interview, I realised that I was the youngest person there. Everyone else coming for the interview looked like they had been in university for a few years already/ already had a family.

When we stepped in, there were four or so tables stocked with jugs of water, drinking glasses and lollies. It was intimidating after a few more minutes though, since I quickly learnt the hiring managers were very very outgoing and chill. Would you believe that the first thing they got us to do was test if we could fold origami?? I wracked my brains for some awesome thing I could fold but came up with only this sad lotus flower thingy. One of the managers seemed to like it though, since she she wrote my name as 'penny the origami champion' on my interview paper haha.

Next, they had us take as many M&M's we wanted and after we did that, they made us a number of fun facts about ourselves based on the number of M&M's we took. Very interesting. Everyone was super outgoing and social though, I really had to try hard to step out of that typical asian mold. The next challenge was to go to this shelf at the back of the room (which was stocked with Daiso products) and work with people sitting at the same table as you to 'shop' for a imaginary customer (whom we could make up). Overall, it was actually quite a fun interview, much more relaxed than I thought it would be.

There was only a final individual interview at the end which barely lasted three minutes. I really hope I get in, despite the huge number of talented people who came today. Fingers crossed!!!!! I dearly want this job.

Oh, and I received my first ever online order today :) my iphone case!! I got the mint coloured one.

By the way, I just realised that this post is my 1000th post. Omg. I can't believe I've been blogging for so long (and that some of you have read 1000 entries haha).

Well, that's all for today! I bid you all a good night :)

Hey everyone! This day was our last day in melbourne and it was pretty much packed with things we had to do. We checked out of our hostel early in the morning and headed off to Queen Victoria's market. There were so many stalls there, selling: food, wine, clothes etc.

There were also shops alongside the market and we went into this store that sold body butter, soap and the like. It smelled divine. Natalie & Aya both got something from there and later found this dessert wine in the market that tasted really good. Afterwards, we took the tram to the melbourne aquarium. The entrance fee was so pricey but I guess kind of worth it since there were so many interesting things inside. I wasn't expecting it to be interesting at all since I kind of always feel bored in exhibitions of any kind, even live animals.
I think I found a side of me that I didn't even know existed. Rather than interested at the performances the staff made the animals do, I kind of felt a little disgusted to be honest. It felt as though the animals were degraded just so they could entertain us humans :\ They even had a fishing pool for kids to catch fish. They penguins were cute though, I admit.
 Fish
Apparently this isn't a seahorse but a seadragon? I don't really know the difference, maybe they don't have curly tails like seahorses?
I found the colour of this thingyo rather amusing, it was neon yellow!
The creatures kept moving around so it was actually really difficult to take photos of them.
Jenwen's favourite: jellyfish!!!!

Afterwards we headed off to Fitzroy gardens, boy am I glad we went. It was so amazingly beautiful and the weather was perfect as well.
It was quite a large park and there were fallen leaves everywhere, which I think looks really pretty :3
Despite the cold weather, we went to buy icecream whilst we sat on a bench in the park hehehe.
okay, nothing much to say here, just admire the sceneryyyyy 8D

You know, right after leaving the park, we went to take the tram and we were so stupid omg. When our tram arrived, we had to go top up our myki cards (go-card equivalent) but seeing the driver wasn't inside the tram we just stood there waiting till he came back so we could ask him if the tram was going in the direction we needed to go. After like five minutes, the doors suddenly shut and I'm just like

'hmmm well there is no driver, so obviously its not going to be leaving yet'

Next minute, the tram starts moving and we are left behind TT Then we realise that the stop we were at was the terminal station so obviously it'd only go one way - back in the direction it came. Also, turns out the driver just walked to the other side of the tram to drive (since the tram has two sides). I bet the strangers witnessing our debate were like omg... they're so stupid HAHAHA.

Tis all :D

Okay I'm back again to blog about Melbourne!! The night before, we met our new roomie, who was from perth and was travelling along so natalie, being the social kid she is invited her to come and hang out with us today. We all woke up early in the morning and went to have breakfast at one of the nice cafes near Flinders Street station with Natalie's friend (daniel). No, not her boyfriend, another daniel hahaha.

The portions were so huge, I wasn't expecting it to be so large probably because the food in Sydney was much more expensive and the price I paid for the breakfast was decent. I ordered something called B.E.T.S which had like eggs, baby spinach, bacon, sourdough which was all drizzled with a bit of mayonnaise. The lavender grey tea I ordered was kind of disappointing though, it tasted pretty much the same as earl grey tea.

The rest of the others ordered french toast except for Rose (our roomie) and let me just say, this is the largest toast I've ever seen in my life, it was actually much larger in real life.

From Left to right: Rose, Aya, natalie & daniel

We walked around for a little bit in the city after that. Daniel left to go to watch the penguin parade at phillip Island and Rose went to the museum so the rest of us just walked around. I must say, the architecture is so beautiful!! Everything looks so detailed and unique. I also love the fact that it kind of has a look of historical buildings about it!

The weather actually wasn't that cold, even though everyone told us it would be freezing, I'm very thankful for that since I don't exactly own that many winter clothing.

After a bit of shopping, I left to meet up with Sally!! I hadn't seen her for a long time, since she moved to Melbourne to study. I can really see why now, it's kind of like a mixture of Sydney and Brisbane - it has the cleanliness of brisbane and the shopping/eating convenience of Sydney. It was so good to catch up, I was still too full from breakfast to eat lunch with her but she shouted me a drink at this jap restaurant when I went with her to have lunch.

She then took me to Melbourne Central shopping centre, it's so different from brisbane shopping centres. They have all these really cool structures.

Of course, there was also lots of shopping places hahahaha. I bought a nice coat for $25 at Valleygirl there. Sally had to leave at around four so I headed over to China town to find natalie & Aya (i'm so proud, I didn't even get lost hahahaha) Looks like Melbourne & I get along quite well.

For dinner, natalie took us to a buffet restaurant called Kitchen workshop which is located in the Crown Casino. Apparently it's really famous. We were so lucky that we turned up early since there were gazillion people waiting to get in afterwards. The entrance fee was alright I guess, $28.50 which is decent for a all-you-can-eat I think. It used to be $25 according to natalie.
The had such a wide range of salads, which for some reason I was craving that day. There was heaps of other stuff as well, but I didn't take pictures of them, you'll just have to use your imagination ;)

I got sick of the roast real quickly and after having like two big bowls of salad I went over to the dessert section, which looked divine.

Rose met up with us for dinner as well and we were all having a competition to see who could set up their dessert the prettiest. This was mine:

We were all so full afterwards it wasn't even funny omg. But I must say, the apple blueberry crumble was sooooo good. We walked through the casino to exit, everyone kept paying me out because I was the only one under 18 and so they couldn't walk past the gaming area hahaha. The inside of the casino is so pretty. One day, one day I'll save up and live there for like three days.
Photos do not do it justice but whatever.
Being typical asians outside at the entrance. It's okay, there were heaps of other people doing that too.

Went walking around for a little bit since Jimmy told us that the night scenery around that area was really pretty. He wasn't wrong.
Oh and, this area was also called southbank. Well, it really does rival Brisbane's southbank doesn't it?
