Melbourne Travel Journal - Day 3.0

by - 11:00 AM

Hey guys :3 I'm back with the long overdue post about my third day in melbourne!!

We started the morning off with some brunch at the much raved about manchester press. We made no reservations, just turned up and crossed our fingers hoping that the line wouldn't be too long.

We popped our names onto a list and started taking some photos since the cafe was located down a cool little ally.  A random saw us trying to take selfies and offered to take one for us, with a "good angle" and everything HAHAHA.
The waiting time wasn't too bad actually, probably around 15-20minutes if memory serves me correctly but right after we went in the store was flooded with people trying to get onto the waiting list so I guess we were pretty lucky.

Turns out 95% of the menu consisted of different types of bagels with different fillings. I don't think I  was ever particularly obsessed with bagels, never thought they were anything special but I really did enjoy my breakfast. I think the fillings themselves were just paired really well.
We tried savoury bagels such as smoked salmon etc. and also dessert ones like the berry one above, which justin absolutely loved. This one was a blueberry bagel paired with marscapone cheese I believe.
Tam was victoria & I's sole motivator for getting presentable - we'd spend 70% of the time from the time we woke up to the time we left just observing her putting on makeup before realising we needed to up our game as well, so victoria & I would be on a mad rush to get presentable for the remaining time.
Le cute couple. By this, I mean Tam and I. Tammmmmy.
After brunch we headed off to go rent some bicycles so we get some exercise whilst exploring St. Kilda beach. The rental was like $30 for a entire day, complete with the bicycle, route map and helmet.

I didn't expect too much, but man melbourne really surpasses brisbane in terms of bike paths. It lead all the way from the CBD area to the beach and the scenery was really pretty. So pretty we stopped two elderly men jogging just to get them to take a photo for us. I hope we didn't break their running record or something.
So gorgeous right?

We didn't actually cycle that fast since we kept making stops to take photos, but that was just the beginning...
The boys pretty much took off at a faster speed later on when we realised we had less time than expected to get to brighton beach. They rode so fast that Tam and I were quickly left behind. We thought we'd take it slower and just enjoy the scenery.
... except after like fifteen minutes the guys were nowhere in sight so we decided to pedal faster to catch up. We kept cycling faster and faster.... but we still couldn't find them so I called them up to ask them where they were. They told us they were already at the beach so Tam and I continued pedalling in an attempt to catch up. We cycled for what felt like ages but still couldn't find the beach, even though I used apple maps.... which told us we were still a far distance off.
We ended up cycling for an additional 10.4km....before coming across a sign which said we had already passed brighton beach by 8km. Tam and I almost died cycling back, all in all we'd cycled about 40km in total and everyone got so worried because we disappeared for so long.
We couldn't even get back to the rental shop by 5pm because we were all so sore from riding so we kind of just skipped over brighton beach (well Tam and I did) and tried getting home. It was super dark and windy; we rode through this dark park which looked super ghostly and finally after many mishaps we got home and sorta just dumped our bicycles in our apartment balcony before heading out for dinner.

We were all so smashed that we thought it would be fitting to move our schedule forward and just have dinner at the Crown casino buffet called Kitchen workshop. I actually went there with Natalie and Aya a few years back.

I can't remember how many plates of food I devoured I mean after a 40km bike ride I say we deserved it. It is needless to say we loathed the sight of bikes for ages after. Thank goodness we only had to pay an extra $5 to rent the bicycles the next day rather than before five on the day.

Despite the mishaps I still think the day was really fun and worth it - simply because it was actually really relaxing minus the part where Tam and I were cycling like madmen. Justin took so much pity on us when we finally found them that he even gave us an awkward hug HAHAHA. Apparently I looked like a dead person.

Well that's all for tonight :3 I think the remaining days can probably be summarised in one more post and then I can blog about my asia trip :) Hope you guys are all enjoying your holidays (and the start of a new year).

Goodnight! x
